Sam has been working with a Hasselblad camera and traditional photographic film and silver gelatin paper for over fifty years. Using archival materials and methods, he does his own developing, printing and matting in his darkroom here in Galisteo.
A visit to New Mexico when he was thirteen years old created a love for basin and range country and its open vistas which he has tried to express through his photography ever since. Most of his subjects portray quietly open places in New Mexico, Utah and Colorado and he has been extraordinarily fortunate to be able to live and work in Galisteo for more than thirty years.
