JESSICA SPRING

JESSICA SPRING
A few years ago, I was painting large, figurative landscapes in acrylic and oil. My method started with simple color pencil sketches in a small journal while in the field. I would then re-create the sketch on a canvas, as large as 6’ wide.

Now, my art is much smaller, an alternative way of seeing the everyday views. For these realistic, miniature landscapes — most are only 3-4” wide — I use over 50 soft-core pencils. New Mexico’s sweeping views are big, even loud: large clouds, the massiveness of a mountain, though in this small perspective it’s intimate. In scaling down, it’s personal. I especially like it when people lean in to the art, or say they feel a quiet connection that they didn’t expect.”

Artist and experiential design director Jessica Spring lives and works in a home and studio that she designed and built in Galisteo. When not creating art, she is a singer-songwriter, and volunteers at the local fire department. Spring graduated with a BFA in advertising design and photography. She was Creative Director for the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and served as a board member of two art associations in New England. Her art is in private collections, and exhibited in small galleries, restaurants and libraries. She participates in the Galisteo Studio Tour, festivals at El Rancho de Las Golondrinas, and local art markets.
