RACHEL IDRIS

RACHEL IDRIS

Rachel feels that her greatest artistic and personal highlight has been raising her three children to trust their internal guides and create from their hearts. Today, all three are professional artists: an actor, a writer/poet/musician, and a visual artist. For years, she believed her worth came from service, leading her through careers in fire technology, EMS, massage and polarity therapy, and doula work. She is currently finishing a master’s degree in counseling psychology, a journey that has deepened her understanding of the nervous system and the creative process. Her art is the creative expression of her heart.

After watching her children find their voices through their own creativity, she has surrendered to her own “wild imaginings.” Creating is her medicine; it regulates her nervous system and allows her to take up space, use resources, and be seen. She incorporates bark, branches, and “trash” into her work to symbolize that no thing, experience, or person is without value. Her art is influenced by sacred geometry, the movement of light, whimsy, thunderstorms, and her own personal experiences with chronic pain, motherhood, and finding beauty in dark places.

Her entire home in Galisteo serves as her studio and her largest, ever-evolving art piece. The silence and wildness of the land have helped her realize that she has been an artist her entire life. By opening her home and heart to allow her work to be seen, she hopes to give others permission to create. “We are all artists.”
