Cecile Smith is the creator of Purl and Purr, a whimsical world of fiber arts where the love of cats and wool converge. A knitter all her life, she has recently expanded into felting, working with nuno felting (wet felting) and needle felting techniques.
Raised in France in a family steeped in arts and crafts, and in a home that was transformed into a gallery, her life journey brought her from France to Indonesia, and finally to the small New Mexico village of Galisteo. A French teacher, a mother, a belly dancer, and a certified massage therapist and Reiki master, Cecile knows her rich history is webbed into her yarn creations.
In her hogan-shaped casita, Cecile creates her nuno felted scarves. In her kitchen, she makes small felted animals. And under her portal, she sits and knits. Self-taught, she is not a fan of rules – her process is intuitive and organic. Playing with texture and color, she infuses her work with joy and lightness.
